Atlas Genius Ponder Club Life on ‘If So’ – Song Premiere

Atlas Genius are confused by club life. The indie rockers know how to throw down a proper rump-shaker, but the dingy, strangely intimate environment of nightclubs is still perplexing to the Australian band. On their new track “If So,” Atlas Genius groove with dream-like guitar licks, shifty hi-hats and a meaty bass backbone. It’s a track fit for the sweaty, packed-in late nights that bewilder the group.

“‘If So’ was inspired by that fascinating microcosm you get when you jam hundreds of people in a room and call it a nightclub,” frontman Keith Jeffery tells Rolling Stone. “Personalities are exaggerated and it is socially acceptable to grab a complete stranger and dance with them.” The diverse mix of people is strangely beautiful to Jeffery, who notes the strange affectations of club-goers. “Some people are there to pick-up while others go all dressed-up only to act like they don’t want to be there. Such wonderful places to people watch.”
“If So” is on Atlas Genius forthcoming record, When It Was Now, out February 19th.
