Aretha Frankin, Home From Hospital, Is ‘In Great Spirits’

Aretha Franklin was released from the hospital on Sunday and expects to be home for the holidays, the singer announced late Wednesday in another of the personalized press releases she’s been issuing throughout her recent unspecified illness.
“I’ve been at home for almost three days now,” she said. “My family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis. I’m hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play [Triumph and Tragedy of a Soul Stirrer: The Life of Sam] at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before January 2, as well as a performance of Dreamgirls at the Fox before it closes.”

Franklin’s ailment, for which she underwent “highly successful” surgery, earlier this month, has not been announced. But several sources, including an unidentified relative, reportedly have said the singer is suffering from pancreatic cancer.
Her publicist said in a statement Wednesday that Franklin is in “great spirits and very happy to be home where she will be resting in anticipation of spending the upcoming holiday season with her family.”
