Arcade Fire won the 2011 Polaris Music Prize for their third album, The Suburbs, last night. The honor, which is given to one Canadian act selected from a shortlist each year, is essentially the Canadian equivalent to the Mercury Music Prize in the United Kingdom. Other nominees this year included Destroyer, the Weeknd, Ron Sexsmith, Austra and Braids.

This prize is only the latest prestigious honor bestowed upon The Suburbs. Earlier this year, the record was named Album of the Year at both the Grammy Awards and the Juno Awards, and the disc won for Best International Album at the BRIT Awards.
