Four members of the Arcade Fire will visit the University of Texas in Austin on March 19th to deliver a lecture about Haiti’s current socio-economic crisis. Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Will Butler and Marika Anthony-Shaw will recount their volunteer efforts in the region and discuss the nation’s need for health care reform and First World aid. The musicians will also urge students to get involved with relief efforts. The country is still recovering from a devastating earthquake in 2010.
Arcade Fire have put a great deal of time and effort in helping relief efforts in Haiti, the birthplace of singer and multi-instrumentalist Chassagne. The band have raised well over $1 million dollars in proceeds from ticket sales and licensing, and they played an intimate gig at the Hotel Oloffson in Port-Au-Prince last year.
