Arcade Fire Cover ‘Dust in the Wind’ In Kansas City

Band continues streak of geographically-specific tributes

Arcade Fire have been charming their way across the country on their Reflektor tour with geographically-specific cover songs, much like Bruce Springsteen did on his tour of Australia and New Zealand. With past sets hitting on Prince’s “Controversy” for Minneapolis and Boys II Men’s “Motownphilly” in Philadelphia, they continued the tradition on Saturday night at Kansas City’s Starlight Theatre by playing Kansas’ 1977 classic “Dust in the Wind.”

The Unforgettable Fire: Can Arcade Fire Be the World’s Biggest Band?

Bobbleheaded fake band the Reflektors took the stage at the beginning of the encore, as the Kansas City Star reports, and gave the song’s distinctive acoustic picking their all, putting plenty of drama into those doleful vocals. There was just one problem with the selection, though: The Starlight Theatre isn’t in the state of Kansas, and Win Butler finally broke up the party. “Guys, that was really beautiful, but that’s a Kansas song and we’re in fuckin’ Missouri. You fucked up,” he said. “That’s gonna kill when we play Lawrence, though.”
