Anti-Fur Activists Protest Janet Jackson Tour Kick-Off

Janet Jackson opened her Numbers Ones: Up Close and Personal tour at the PICC Plenary Hall in Manila on Friday. As promised, her setlist was focused almost entirely on her classic hits from the Eighties, with six selections taken from Control and seven from Rhythm Nation 1814.

The opening night of the tour was soured somewhat by a protest outside the venue by PETA activists dressed as grim reapers. The activists were protesting Jackson for appearing in an ad campaign for Blackglama’s line of mink fur items.

Jackson’s tour will hit the United States in March with a concert at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. It is likely that PETA protesters will show up at other dates on the singer’s tour.
