Amos Lee Shows How It’s Made in ‘The Man Who Wants You’ – Premiere

Song is from singer’s new LP ‘Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song’

Amos Lee matches his stomping and soulful new single, “The Man Who Wants You,” with a video shot inside the building where the 180-gram vinyl version of his forthcoming album was pressed. And although Lee goes all How It’s Made with the lead clip from Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song – which is due out on October 8th and available for pre-order here – he brings it full circle when the finished product gets tested on an old Zenith stereo console from the 1960s.

That retro feel is alive on the song, as Lee explains to Rolling Stone, “‘The Man Who Wants You’ was written more as a straight-on country kinda tune, but I wanted to stretch it out of that scene a bit, so I played everyone ‘Snatching It Back’ by Clarence Carter and it fell into place easily. I always saw that tune as more of a country R&B flavor.'”

Amos Lee Breaks Record for Lowest-Selling Number One Album

As for its parent album, the follow up to 2011’s chart-topping Mission Bell was tracked in the East Nashville church-turned studio owned by the project’s producer Jay Joyce. Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song counts high profile guests like Alison Krauss and Patty Griffin, plus Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson and Family) and Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band) appearing alongside Lee’s longtime touring band.

Lee – who hits the road on September 21st at Farm Aid in Saratoga Springs, NY – says he was happy to record his fifth studio album in the Music City: “It was nice to get out of the town that we live in and into a different scene of musicians to draw different inspiration from.”
