Amnesty International Releasing Human Rights Concerts

Bruce Springsteen, U2, Radiohead, the Police and more featured in massive box set

On November 5th, Amnesty International will release ¡Released!, a special six-disc DVD and two-disc CD box set featuring four shows from their historic Human Rights Concerts series that spanned from 1986-1998.

The first of the four films showcases the all-day final concert of A Conspiracy of Hope, Amnesty International’s 25th anniversary tour of the U.S. in June 1986. Included are performances by U2 ,the Police, Bryan Adams, Miles Davis, Lou Reed and Joni Mitchell.

The second film features highlights from the massive international Human Rights Now! tour in September and October of 1988, with performances from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Peter Gabriel and Tracy Chapman.

The third film features the An Embrace of Hope October 1990 concert, where Sting, Sinead O’Connor, Jackson Browne and Wynton Marsalis landed in Chile to show support of the country’s liberation from military dictatorship.

The final film, The Struggle Continues. . ., includes the 1998 Paris concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The lineup mixes the Nineties and the Seventies, with Radiohead, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, Bruce Springsteen, Alanis Morrissette and Peter Gabriel on the bill.  

Three of the films have never been officially released in any video or audio format; The Struggle Continues. . . saw a limited release, hitting VHS and DVD 14 years ago. The box set’s DVD portion features 120 songs reaching over 12 hours. Combined with 32 extra segments, the set totals almost 17 hours. The two-disc CD set offers 30 highlights from the four shows, and an in-depth 40-page booklet is also included.
