Alessia Cara Brings Anti-Party Anthem ‘Here’ to ‘Seth Meyers’

Canadian R&B singer-songwriter Alessia Cara sauntered through Late Night with Seth Meyers Wednesday and delivered an engrossing performance of her debut single, “Here.”
The anti-party anthem finds Cara dismissing suitors and social expectations with melodic aplomb. Backed by a three-piece band and a handful of gauzy-voiced singers, the 19-year-old commanded the stage and brought “Here” to boil while unspooling vivid lines like, “Tell them I’ll be here / Right next to the boy who’s throwing up cause he can’t take what’s in his cup no more / Oh god, why am I here?”
“Here” initially appeared on Cara’s Four Pink Walls EP, released in August, but will also anchor her debut album, Know-It-All, set to arrive on Friday via Def Jam.
Cara spoke with Rolling Stone this summer about figuring out her own voice while recording Know-It-All. “When making the album, I didn’t really want to listen to a lot of music or compare it to other music, because as a new artist, I really wanted to be different,” she said. “Something is always going to sound like something else, but I really wanted to make my own kind of style.”
