Against Me! have released “FUCKMYLIFE666,” the first single from the band’s long-awaited next album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues, which will be available on the band’s label Total Treble Music on January 21st, 2014.
The mid-tempo thrasher, which you can hear below, features NOFX’s Fat Mike on bass. While the song’s rather blunt title gives a good impression of the song’s subject matter, frontwoman Laura Jane Grace tackles life’s miseries and anxieties directly and deftly, especially when she alludes to her own coming out as a transgendered woman: “Silicone chest and collagen lips/ How would you even recognize me?”
Recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606, Transgender Dysphoria Blues marks Against Me!’s first record since Grace, born Tom Gable, told Rolling Stone in 2012 that she would be transitioning her gender to a woman. As the title suggests, the record will deal heavily with transgender dysphoria, the medical term for feeling discontent with one’s sex, along with other themes like self-discovery, the loss of friends, love and acceptance.

Back in May, the band announced the amicable departure of bassist Andrew Seward, making Grace and guitarist James Bowman the only remaining original members of the band. But as Grace wrote at the time, “If I didn’t feel like I had something that I really needed to say with the album we’ve been working on for the past year, then I’d humbly hang the hat and move on.” Since then, they have added Inge Johansson on bass and Atom Willard on drums.
Against Me! released an EP in July for free called True Trans, which contained a few Transgender Dysphoria Blues cuts. The band is set embark on a full North American tour next year.
