Aesop Rock Announces Hey Kirby Tour, Battles Through Therapy in ‘Shrunk’ Video

MC hits the road with Homeboy Sandman in November

Aesop Rock announced dates for his upcoming Hey Kirby tour on Wednesday. The MC will hit the road in support of his 7th studio album, The Impossible Kid, which came out in April and features contributions from Chuck D, Hanni El Khatib, and Kimya Dawson.

Rock will kick off his tour right after Thanksgiving in Eugene, OR on November 25th. After a slew of dates in the west, he heads up to Canada, loops back down through midwest America and climbs up the East Coast, wrapping the tour with a show in Toronto on January 29th. Longtime collaborators Rob Sonic and DJ Zone, both of whom helped out with The Impossible Kid, will accompany the rapper on the road. Homeboy Sandman, who worked with Aesop Rock earlier this year on the Lice 2: Still Buggin’ EP,  will serve as opener.

Rock also unveiled the the new clip for “Shrunk,” in which a video game version of himself overcomes obstacles – and ponies up a lot of quarters – to fight his way to, and then through, a therapy session. After a verbal tete-a-tete with his analyst, the rapper concludes that they don’t see eye to eye. “Agree to disagree as grown-ups from opposing clans,” he decides as a brassy, no-nonsense beat pulses behind him. “Oh well, preservation is a doozie,” he adds. “‘Will you be needing another appointment?’ ‘Absolutely.'”

Speaking with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Rock called The Impossible Kid his “sliding up to 40 record.” “I think the age of 40 is the thing that looms over our heads and it’s got all these kind of … things that we attach to it,” he explained. “I think it’s just a period of reflection for me in a lot of ways. So I guess that’s kind of the shape that a lot of the songs took.”

The busy musician is also composing the original soundtrack for Infinity Baby, an upcoming film starring Nick Offerman set for release next year.
