Guitarist Adrian Belew has apparently left Nine Inch Nails, writing on Facebook last night, “It didn’t work.” Belew elaborated on his decision to leave the group in a Facebook post that has since been taken down. “I greatly respect Trent [Reznor] and the music he makes,” Belew wrote, according to Consequence of Sound. “No one is at fault. We both agreed it just was not working. I’m sorry to disappoint anyone.” Belew added that he plans to refocus his energy on his current solo project, FLUX.

The former King Crimson guitarist has collaborated occasionally with Nine Inch Nails over the years, and joined the band on a full-time basis back in February. His departure makes him the second member of the new Nine Inch Nails lineup to leave after bassist Eric Avery departed last month. The band, however, did recently welcome back longtime NIN associate Robin Finck on guitar.

Nine Inch Nails are set to play a handful of festival dates this summer – starting with the Fuji Rock Festival on June 26th, with appearances at Lollapallooza and Outside Lands to follow – and just announced a sprawling North American tour for this fall.

Just yesterday, NIN mastermind Trent Reznor released “Came Back Haunted.” It’s the first track from the band’s upcoming new record, Hesitation Marks, which is slated for a September 3rd release on Columbia.
