Adele Laughs Off ‘Embarrassing’ Grammy Performance on ‘Ellen’

’25’ singer delivers pitch-perfect mulligan performance of “All I Ask”

Adele admitted she “was so embarrassed” by her performance at the Grammys — which was marred by sound issues — but did so with her trademark cackle during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday.

“I woke up the next morning to people in England being like, ‘We still love you, don’t worry,'” the 25 singer said, before adding with a laugh. “And I was like, ‘I didn’t ask you if you still loved me, but thanks!'”

Adele explained again that the strange guitar-like noise that disrupted her rendition of “All I Ask” was caused by a microphone that had fallen on the piano. The singer said she knew exactly what had caused the problem when it happened and wanted to remove the mic, but froze.

“Some people thought it was Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn’t him,” she cracked. “We’re on great terms.”

Otherwise, Adele said, she thought the performance went really well, and admitted, “I’m always a bit pitchy.” When the audience laughed, the singer insisted with put-on melodrama, “I am! It’s emotion.”

Still, Adele said the performance took its toll and she spent much of the next day crying — but did treat herself to a burger and a beer. She also joked, “In fairness, I would have cried if it went really well, as well. If it had been a stand out performance I would have cried. I always cry.”

But for good measure, Adele opened her appearance on Ellen with a pitch-perfect rendition of “All I Ask.”

Adele will spend much of 2016 touring in support of her massively successful 2015 LP, 25. The singer begins with a U.K. and European trek this spring, before criss-crossing North America throughout much of the second-half of the year. Her first U.S. date is July 5th at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.
