Adele: I Want to Do ‘Hotline Bling’ Remix With Drake

As many astute memes have observed, two of 2015’s biggest hits – Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and Adele‘s “Hello” – share a lyrical and emotional wavelength, as if the musicians are singing back and forth about their failed relationship. Now Adele says she wants to cement the songs’ connection more officially: “I really want us to do an official remix. I love Drake. I love Drake so much,” she told etalk.
The singer, who recently released her massive third LP, 25, is such a “Hotline Bling” fan, she purchased a coat worn in the song’s oft-parodied music video. “I got it delivered the other day, I ordered it,” she said. “The red one.”
And not even Adele is above performing a drunken dance-along to the ubiquitous R&B jam. “I had a drink like three weeks ago [with] my best friends – in fact it was to celebrate ‘Hello’,” she said. “And I was off my face because I don’t really drink anymore, and they’ve got video of me dancing to it on a coffee table as well.”
Drake, for his part, seems amenable to the collaboration, posting a drawing of himself and Adele on Instagram with the caption, “Me and my main ting just coolin’.”
As the world waits for a “Hotline Bling”/”Hello” remix, there are plenty of prominent cover versions to explore in the meantime. Artists as disparate as Justin Bieber, Sufjan Stevens and Sam Smith with Disclosure have tackled the Drake track, and both Demi Lovato and Rick Ross have added their twists to the Adele ballad.
“This may be one of the biggest records in the history of our time,” Ross told Rolling Stone of his remix. “We needed a warm record. I felt like I had something to say on it.”
