Adele Cancels U.S. Tour Due to Illness
For the second time this year, Adele has been forced to scratch tour dates due to issues involving her vocal cords. Her U.S. dates were scheduled to begin on Friday, October 7th in Atlantic City, New Jersey and continue through October 21st in Grand Prairie, Texas, but she has canceled her entire upcoming sold-out run, effective immediately. Coming off a successful U.K. tour, Adele’s doctors diagnosed her with a vocal cord hemorrhage, as she experienced earlier this year, and they have advised her that she will need an extended period of rest in order to fully recuperate.
“Singing is literally my life. It’s my hobby, my love, my freedom and now my job,” said Adele in a statement released by her record label, Columbia. “I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully or I risk damaging my voice forever.” The 23 year-old British singer explains that she is “devastated” by having to cancel these tour dates and apologizes, sincerely, to fans, knowing how inconvenient and disappointing it must be for them to have to change their plans. Furthermore, she says she’ll start vocal rehab as soon as she’s given clearance and “I will be back and I’m gonna smash the ball out of the park once I’m touring again.”
Refunds will be issued at the point of purchase for the all ten dates of her canceled U.S. tour.
