A Tribe Called Quest Announce Phife Dawg Memorial

A Tribe Called Quest will hold a memorial for their late member Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor on Monday in New York. While details of the “Celebration of Phife” memorial weren’t revealed, organizers wrote to fans on the Smokin’ Needles site, “Please meet us at St. Albans Park in Queens, NY on April 4th at 10:30am. The first 200 fans to arrive will receive something very special!”
Phife and Q-Tip both grew up in the St. Albans neighborhood in Queens, and following the rapper’s death on March 22nd, grassroots efforts have been made to name a street and a park in the area after the Tribe Called Quest rapper.
Following Phife’s death, a Tribe Called Quest’s surviving members wrote in a statement, “Our hearts are heavy. We are devastated. This is something we weren’t prepared for although we all know that life is fleeting. It was no secret about his health and his fight. But the fight for his joy and happiness gave him everything he needed. The fight to keep his family happy, his soul happy and those around him happy, gave him complete and unadulterated joy…until he heeded his father’s call.”
