2 Chainz Takes Over Jamaica in ‘Mainstream Ratchet’ Video
2 Chainz strikes an imposing figure in the dark, gritty, booty-filled video for “Mainstream Ratchet,” off the Atlanta rapper’s second LP, B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time. Over a nasty, guttural synth line, 2 Chainz spits some gnarly braggadocio while riding ’round and gettin’ it, and in a handful of locales ranging from a high rise balcony to an alleyway lit up with fire. Directed by Sharod Marcus Simpson, the video was shot in Jamaica, according to a tweet from the rapper.
As 2 Chainz tweeted last month, he’s already at work on a new album, B.O.A.T.S. III, but is currently on a quick break before finishing up his “2 Good to Be T.R.U.” tour alongside Pusha T. The rapper is also scheduled to headline Maryland’s Sweetlife Music and Food Festival, which will take place on May 10th at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C. and Baltimore.
2 Chainz’s last tour was put on hold last September when Oklahoma police found a number of weapons and drugs on his tour bus, which resulted in a nine-hour standoff and the rapper’s arrest, along with 10 others. They were charged with obstructing a police officer and released after paying $2,000 bail each.
“It’s something that, essentially, a public defender could beat,” he told Rolling Stone after the incident. “I could actually take myself to trial for a lot of this shit. I don’t want to waste the taxpayers’ money on this. Because, guess what? I pay a fucking lot of taxes!”
