Ten Who fans have redeemed their canceled tickets to a 1979 show in Providence, Rhode Island for new tickets to the band’s local Quadrophenia tour stop next February, reports the Providence Journal.

Twenty-three years ago, Providence’s then-mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. nixed the Who’s concert at after a lethal audience stampede at their Cincinnati show a couple of weeks prior. On Tuesday, 10 ticketholders for the cancelled gig redeemed 14 tickets; they’re now headed to the Who’s February 26th, 2013 show at Dunkin Donuts’ Center – the first time the band has returned to Providence since their canceled concert.

The traded-in tickets were donated to the Rhode Island Special Olympics, which will auction them off as memorabilia.

The new Providence date will close out the Who’s massive 36-date Quadrophenia tour, which kicks off on November 1st in Sunrise, Florida. The band last took their 1973 rock opera on the road in 1996 and 1997. “We’ve been anxious to work together before we drop dead,” Pete Townshend said recently. Added Roger Daltrey, “I don’t know how many more years I’ll be able to sing this music.”
