Earlier this month, Bassnectar interrupted Madison Square Garden's ongoing Billy Joel residency to push through two hours of body-shaking dubstep: On October 4th, the Laptop Man played the crowd his songs, they loved him just the way he is and though neither party started the fire, they both kept it burning until late into the night. Here are behind-the-scenes and in-the-stands shots from the wild event, with captions from Bassnectar himself.
"Me and Gnarlos (my tour manager) surveying the land and dreaming up how our crew can transform the place into a floating ball of pure insanity and magic."
"That's my trusty manager, Taylor, and my agent, Jake. Every time we talk on the phone we only whisper because we are all very zen, relaxed people."
"I love elephants because they are symbols of massive force, massive weight and something wild and primal."
"This dude was front-and-center at MSG, and I recognized him from being front-and-center the night before in Rochester. We have a lot of wild people following around from show to show. It's a lot of fun."
"I felt like I was inside of a pod or an air traffic control tower. I love having those walls of video at my back and on the sides and in front, because I feel totally immersed and want to dive head-first into the crowd."
"Madison Square Garden. Crushing."
"I love making hippies spaz out."
"This is W. Darling singing live with me: our song You & Me, aptly named. When the confetti exploded, she didn't flinch – just kept bouncing and singing. The girl has exquisite poise."
