Willie Nelson’s Ranch to Host Daylong Festival During SXSW

Willie Nelson‘s private “Luck, Texas” ranch, which served as the setting of the country icon’s Red Headed Stranger movie in 1986, will be welcoming some new strangers during South by Southwest this year. The ranch will be the site of the third annual Heartbreaker Banquet, a daylong concert on Thursday, March 13th that includes pop-up shops, local food and performances by 18 rock, country and roots bands. The music talent this year includes Shovels and Rope, J. Roddy Walston and the Business, Lucius, the Felice Brothers, Hurray for the Riff Raff and the Wild Feathers. The event’s organizers also said in a statement, “Surprises are in store.”

The concert will take place on two stages this year, and the event will make use of the whole Luck, Texas “town.” The outdoor “Medicine Show” stage will be erected in front of Willie Nelson’s “World Headquarters” on the ranch’s main street and a “Chapel Stage,” built for acoustic performances, will be set up in the ranch’s 50-seat church. The Midnight Moon saloon will serve as a free bar, and the Banquet will also make use of the town’s general store and jailhouse, the latter of which will serve as a pop-up shop with several vendors.
The Heartbreaker Banquet 2014 is being held this year to benefit the SIMS Foundation, which offers mental health services to Austin musicians.
