Watch Tucker Beathard’s Sneering ‘Momma and Jesus’ on ‘Kimmel’

Young country singer makes late-night debut with unapologetic track from ‘Fight Like Hell’ EP

Tucker Beathard made his national television debut Tuesday night, performing current single “Momma and Jesus” on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

If the 21-year-old had any stage jitters surrounding the milestone, he kept them hidden as he and his band ran through a muscular version of the track about chasing his demons and vowing to mend his ways before his mom and maker give up on him. It was a straight-ahead rendition, in stark contrast to the Jackass-inspired video for the song, released last week, which features a naked Beathard, a wild paintball game and blow-up dolls.

The song, which climbs six spots to Number 50 this week on Billboard‘s Hot Country Airplay chart, is the second single from Beathard’s Fight Like Hell EP, following his Top Five debut “Rock On.” He co-wrote the six songs on the set with a number of collaborators, including his father, noted Nashville songwriter Casey Beathard.

“I really discovered myself through songwriting, it is my best therapy and outlet,” he told Rolling Stone Country earlier this year. “Each song tells a bit more about me and my sound, and it’s sort of a cool timeline to look back on, too. Some of these songs I wrote in high school, some I wrote a few months ago.”

Beathard hits the road on Brantley Gilbert’s The Devil Don’t Sleep Tour on February 2nd in Reading, Pennsylvania.
