Watch Sam Outlaw’s Cinematic ‘Trouble’ Video

New clip for track from ‘Tenderheart’ depicts a woman with malicious intent, leaving destruction in her wake

A Wild West vixen blazes a trail of theft and seduction in Sam Outlaw’s new video for “Trouble.” Directed by Chris Phelps, who recently oversaw a pair of clips for Nikki Lane’s Highway Queen, the video reaches its ominous conclusion during a hometown show in West Hollywood, where the anti-heroine sees Outlaw onstage and, presumably, targets her next victim.

You’re a little too evil for my own good,” Outlaw sings during the first verse, which finds him warding off an enabler. By the song’s end, though, he’s given into temptation, winding up in the same troublesome spot that gives the track its name.

Full of vintage cars, desert motels and roadside bars, the video marks the most cinematic clip of Outlaw’s career, with director Phelps filtering everything through a dusty, sepia-toned lens. Outlaw makes his own appearance during the final moments, performing the song – a standout from this spring’s Tenderheart – during a crowded gig at the Viper Room. He locks eyes with the villainess and smiles sheepishly, leaving the audience to draw their own conclusions. Is he serenading her? Is she seducing him? The video ends before we find out, with Outlaw’s fate left in the balance.
