Miranda Lambert performed as part of the 90th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in uptown New York City on Thursday, bringing “Highway Vagabond” from her new album The Weight of These Wings to CBS’s in-studio coverage of the famed holiday event.
Lambert smiles and swaggers throughout the song, which tells the story of a group of road warriors “living like gypsies” both “on the map and off the grid.” In our track-by-track breakdown of the album, we described the tune as, “equal parts country-funk road song and hillbilly nursery rhyme, delivered by a touring pro who’s seen her share of mile markers.”
Her performance comes on the heels of the November 18th release of The Weight of These Wings, which took the top spot on Billboard‘s Country Albums chart with first-week sales of 122,000 units. The album hit Number Three overall on the Top 200 chart.
In related news, Nashville songwriter Natalie Hemby, a co-writer on “Highway Vagabond” and a handful of other Weight songs, just announced her solo debut album Puxico, due out via GetWrucke Productions on January 13th.
Lambert’s Highway Vagabond Tour kicks off January 26th in Evansville, Indiana, with Aubrie Sellers and Old Dominion joining as opening acts. Check out a full list of dates here.
