Quick-acting Miranda Lambert fans in Nashville were lucky enough to get the opportunity to attend a free, last-minute preview of the country superstar’s Certified Platinum Tour Tuesday night at the legendary Exit/In nightclub. Announced on Twitter just three hours before the doors opened, the impromptu gig had none of the technological flash of an arena-headlining tour but certainly didn’t lack the energy.
Dressed in a black “Nashville” t-shirt, glittery tights and black leather shorts, Lambert rocked a two-hour set that consisted of many of her best-known tunes and a hefty selection of covers, which also let her band and a couple of special guests take the spotlight. Lambert’s rendition of the new Little Big Town single, “Girl Crush,” teamed the singer with Gwen Sebastian, who also dusted off the Cranberries’ “Zombie” for the crowd. (Sebastian, an alumna of The Voice‘s Team Blake, is a backup singer for both Lambert and husband Blake Shelton, in addition to her own solo career.) Watch them harmonize on the sultry Little Big Town song above.
In a nod to another of her favorite bands — the Dixie Chicks, whom Lambert noted she has missed, she, Sebastian and another Voice graduate, RaeLynn performed a killer version of the trio’s “Cowboy, Take Me Away.”
If fan fervor at the event is any indication of how the upcoming tour will proceed, things should go pretty well once the Certified Platinum Tour kicks off this week. The excitement at this sneak preview, however, proved a bit much for one exuberant male fan, who jumped onto the stage only to be tossed to the floor by security.
“Someone just got tackled,” Lambert mused. “It’s not a club show if someone doesn’t get tackled, have a cat fight or get thrown out!”
Miranda Lambert’s Certified Platinum Tour, which also features Justin Moore and RaeLynn, begins January 15th in Evansville, Indiana, with additional stops this weekend in Lexington, Kentucky, and Columbus, Ohio.
