Watch Maren Morris Jam ‘My Church’ With Keith Urban, Vince Gill
The last time Vince Gill and Keith Urban co-hosted one of their All for the Hall benefit shows in Nashville, Maren Morris was still an unsigned artist, paying the bills as a songwriter while chasing down a record deal. That was May 2014, before “My Church” became a Top 5 hit. Tonight, when All for the Hall returns to its hometown for the first time in two years, Morris will take the stage not as some starry-eyed hopeful, but as one of the genre’s brightest newcomers.
During a rehearsal in East Nashville yesterday afternoon, Morris ran over one of the show’s numbers — an all-hands-on-deck version of her own “My Church” — with Gill, Urban and a large backup band. In the video above, the supergroup runs through 90 seconds of the song, with the show’s two hosts contributing backup harmonies and guitar riffs. It’s a casual performance — just look at Gill’s white cargo shorts, more suitable for a Sunday afternoon trip to Trader Joe’s than a jam session with the leading lights of modern-day country music — but there’s plenty of fire in Morris’s voice, proof that the pint-sized powerhouse can hold her own with the genre’s big boys.
Proceeds for tonight’s All for the Hall show will be donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s education programs. In addition to Morris’s performance, the show will include appearances by Jason Isbell, Emmylou Harris, Peter Frampton, Luke Bryan, Chris Janson, Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, Tracy Lawrence and Maddie & Tae. Gill and Urban, who held the first All for the Hall show in 2009, will share the role of bandleaders and hosts.
