If you haven’t discovered the Grand Ole Opry’s YouTube channel yet, you’re missing out. With a wealth of full performances from Opry members and special guests alike, it’s the ultimate country rabbit hole in which to lose yourself. This Maddie & Tae performance from their Opry debut is a fine example.
One of Rolling Stone‘s Artists You Need to Know, the breakout duo performed their tongue-in-cheek hit “Girl in a Country Song” and the unreleased track “After the Storm Blows Through.” Backed by only acoustic guitar and subtle fiddle, Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye harmonize like sisters on the Opry House stage, elevating the performance to country magic — and justifying the hype that has surrounded them.
Following a string of festival dates, including the Tortuga Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale and the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California, Maddie & Tae will hit the road with Dierks Bentley for a summer amphitheater tour. Their new single “Fly” is currently in the Top 40 of Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart and the band released a video for the track in February.
The Opry, meanwhile, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year with nine months of special performances, including a rare appearance by Reba McEntire on May 2nd. In January, the Opry House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Tonight’s lineup includes Charlie Daniels Band, Eric Paslay, Easton Corbin and Texas phenom Aaron Watson.
