Watch Lee Brice Teach ‘Drinking Class’ on ‘Letterman’

Singer debuts raucous new single from forthcoming album ‘I Don’t Dance’

With his third studio album I Don’t Dance released next week, Lee Brice took to the famously chilly studio of the Late Show With David Letterman to perform his latest single, “Drinking Class.” Written by Josh Kear, David Frasier and Ed Hill, the song is a celebration of the proud, hard-working man and woman.

The follow-up to the more subdued title track, releasing “Drinking Class” as a single was an effort by Brice to avoid being pigeonholed as a balladeer. Likewise, the South Carolina native took his time in sequencing the album itself, making sure tearjerkers were balanced by uptempo anthems like “Drinking Class” and the fun-loving “Girls in Bikinis.”

“I love records that flow and never lose you,” Brice tells Rolling Stone Country. “It’s like going to a show. Garth Brooks will come out and do four or five uptempos, and then the show rests…. And then he comes back out in your face again. A record should be that way, too.”

Brice’s performance on Letterman was decidedly in your face, equal parts defiant and celebratory as he sang lines like “if you gotta label me, label me proud.” The burly singer’s delivery even moved the notoriously cantankerous Letterman, who quipped afterward that he and Brice were going out after the show to start some fights.

Any rumbles notwithstanding, Brice is set to perform tomorrow night in Springfield, Missouri.
