Watch Lee Ann Womack Duet With John Legend on ‘Crossroads’

The powerhouse singers perform each other’s songs during a new episode of the CMT show, premiering this Friday

Lee Ann Womack’s half-decade break from the music business is officially over. Yesterday, the country crooner released The Way I’m Livin’, the rootsy, gospel-tinged follow-up to 2008’s Call Me Crazy. This Friday, she’ll turn over another new leaf with the premiere of an hour-long episode of CMT’s Crossroads. The performance, which airs September 26th at 10 p.m. ET, finds her teaming up with R&B singer John Legend, with both singers turning their own tunes into duets that blur the lines between country, pop and R&B. Listen to the pair’s live performance of Legend’s current single, “You & I (Nobody in the World),” below.

Recorded earlier this month in Franklin, Tennessee, the Crossroads show isn’t Legend’s first move into country music. He teamed up with Hunter Hayes and Jennifer Nettles during the recent 2014 CMT Music Awards, crooning his way through a down-home version of his own multi-platinum mega-hit “All of Me.” The trio even recorded a studio version of the song, releasing it several days after the June 4th awards show. Meanwhile, Womack has a long history of reaching across party lines, too, with her biggest single, “I Hope You Dance,” enjoying airplay on both the country and pop charts back in 2000.

CMT Crossroads: John Legend and Lee Ann Womack features both of those songs, as well as tag-teamed versions of tunes from the singers’ newest albums. It’s also the 51st episode in the CMT Crossroads series, a long-running concert show that matches country(ish) artists with musicians from other genres. Recent pairings include Lady Antebellum with Stevie Nicks and Kacey Musgraves with her former tourmate, Katy Perry.
