While the big news of Monday night’s gridiron clash was Ohio State’s 42-20 upset win over Oregon, the musical entertainment leading up to the collegiate sporting event of the season provided quite a wake up call all on its own.
On Friday (January 9th), superstar trio Lady Antebellum and R&B sensation Aloe Blacc teamed up for the CMT Ultimate Kickoff Party at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, collaborating on a lively version of the ubiquitous pop hit, “Wake Me Up.” Lady A also took the opportunity to perform their latest single, the equally invigorating “Freestyle,” during the event. Toby Keith, Maddie & Tae, Brett Eldredge, Big & Rich, Jake Owen and Thomas Rhett were also on the bill.
On game night Monday, Lady A and Blacc were on hand at AT&T Stadium in nearby Arlington, where the country-pop threesome performed the national anthem and Blacc sang “America the Beautiful,” joined by budding singers from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. A pre-game tailgate party also featured a set by Zac Brown Band.
Last week, Lady A revealed plans for the global Wheels Up 2015 Tour, which gets underway next month with Hunter Hayes and Sam Hunt along for the ride.
