Watch Keith Urban’s Delicate Leonard Cohen Tribute
Over the weekend, Keith Urban offered a moving tribute to Leonard Cohen by covering a portion of the singer-songwriter’s “Hallelujah” during his Ripcord tour stop at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Urban’s stripped-down, acoustic rendition opened the encore section of a nearly two-hour long set.
“God bless you, Leonard Cohen. Thank you for everything you did for us on this planet,” Urban says at the end of the brief performance.
The Friday night show also featured a surprise appearance by Eric Church, who performed the duet “Raise ‘Em Up” with Urban along with Church’s hit “Record Year” from the 2016 CMA Album of the Year Mr. Misunderstood. Church has also covered Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” offering his own hushed take on the tune at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Next up for Urban is a November 17th gig in Hershey, Pennsylvania, followed by shows in Uncasville, Connecticut and Brooklyn, New York. In early December, Urban will venture across the Pacific Ocean to play a series of shows in Australia and New Zealand before returning home for a New Year’s Eve performance in Nashville.
