Watch Kacey Musgraves’ Breezy ‘High Time’ on ‘Corden’
Surrounded by giant pink cacti, Kacey Musgraves and her band visited the Late Late Show with James Corden Wednesday night to perform a sweet, soothing version of “High Time.” As the opening track on Musgraves’ Pageant Material, “High Time” sets the tone for the singer’s sophomore LP, extolling the virtues of rest and relaxation, and finding time to enjoy the simple things in life.
Delivered with a light Tex-Mex feel, the tune features the best whistle in a country song since Little Big Town’s “Day Drinking” and is also a subtle nod to “herbal refreshment,” a subject Musgraves previously broached in “Follow Your Arrow.”
Bypassing subtle altogether, Musgraves encouraged fans to “come get weird” as she announced a show in Denver on April 20th (4/20 being the unofficial holiday celebrating all things cannabis-related). After the April 1st announcement, that show in the weed-legal Mile High City has already sold out.
On the road with her Country & Western Rhinestone Revue this year, the “Dime Store Cowgirl” singer will be in Nashville for a special show during Tin Pan South with collaborators Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne on April 9th. She’s also taking part in Zac Brown’s Southern Ground & Food Festival in Charleston, S.C., on April 17th, and will serve as the opening act for George Strait’s return to the stage April 22nd and 23rd in Las Vegas.
