Watch Josh Turner’s Ode to Laid-Back Love in New ‘Lay Low’ Video

Country star’s latest single reflects his own romantic traditions with wife Jennifer

The little community of Rock Island, Tennessee, southeast of Nashville, is a favorite destination for tourists, and it’s easy to see why in the latest video from country star Josh Turner.

In “Lay Low,” Turner sings about finding the perfect spot to turn off the cell phone and go completely off the grid for a while. And he’s found it deep in the woods at a rustic 200-year-old cabin surrounded by tall trees and crystal clear water. Add a happy young couple in love and you’ve got all the makings of a lovely summer getaway (or a Friday the 13th sequel). Turner and his wife, Jennifer, are the parents of four sons (their youngest was born earlier this year), and their own log cabin retreat on 37 acres south of Music City, affords them the all-too-rare chance to escape from their daily routine.

“Laying low is something Jennifer and I love to do,” Turner tells Rolling Stone Country. “We most always have to make the time to do it, because as you can imagine, we don’t just have ample amounts of idle time. I related to this song immediately because it painted a mental picture of our cabin and how secluded it is. It’s where we go to get away from it all and reconnect with each other; to be reminded of what’s most important.”

“Lay Low,” written by Ross Copperman, Tony Martin and Mark Nesler, is the first single from Turner’s forthcoming sixth studio album, set for release sometime in 2015. The singer says he hopes fans will continue to respond to his brand of more traditional country, in light of “bro country” and other current trends.

“The basic standards I’ve always held for my music still apply to this record,” he explains. “But I’ve definitely taken a step back and looked at what today’s environment is and how my music can fit into that. I don’t follow trends and I’ve always followed my heart whether my music fits in or not, but I want to be a player in the game and continue to evolve as an artist.”
