Jerrod Niemann gets a groove-filled buzz on with his latest single and video. The third release from Niemann’s High Noon album, “Buzz Back Girl” has the singer getting intoxicated on a brand-new love that finds him on a steady rolling, non-alcoholic high.
The follow-up to the Number One smash “Drink to That All Night” — and the underperforming novelty “Donkey” — the accompanying clip for the new single casts a number of buzz-worthy women in the role of Niemann’s backing band as he sings,”Feels like I’ve been drinkin’ since early in the mornin’/I ain’t had a drop, but somethin’s got me goin’.”
“Buzz” finds Niemann sounding more soulful and the track is certainly less polarizing than either of the previous two from High Noon — “Drink” because of its Pitbull remix and “Donkey” because, well, rhyming “donkey” with “honky-tonky” was bound to ruffle a few feathers. Although the latter barely cracked country radio’s Top 40, it still played a role in Niemann’s own evolution as an artist.
“I think that part of our industry wants to move forward and be progressive and part wants to keep it [traditional],” Niemann told Rolling Stone Country in June. “People think if we go and mix other types of stuff it’s ruining it or it’s going to end something, but it all goes in phases, it all changes. I really had to evolve a lot in my mind as a music fan to understand certain things, and if you sit there and try to [sound] like Johnny Cash, and Waylon and Willie, you’re not going to go anywhere, because that’s what made them so great. They can’t be replicated.”
“Buzz Back Girl” was also the inspiration for Niemann’s upcoming Get Your Buzz Back Tour, launching October 24th in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and running through early December.
