Watch James Marsden Go to ‘Low Places’ With Lady Antebellum

‘The Best of Me’ actor does his best Garth Brooks impression on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show

When the inevitable Garth Brooks biopic is cast, producers may want to look no further than the country legend’s fellow Oklahoman, actor James Marsden.

Marsden, a native of Stillwater, briefly studied at Oklahoma State University, as did Brooks. While he’s well-known for roles in such musical films as Enchanted and Hairspray, he’s also appeared in dozens of other movies, including the X-Men series, The Notebook and Anchorman 2.

When Marsden and his fellow stars of The Best of Me, the latest big-screen version of a Nicholas Sparks novel, were guests on radio’s On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, the actor delivered a nearly flawless version of the Brooks megahit, “Friends in Low Places,” joined by others in the studio on the familiar chorus, including Lady Antebellum and Seacrest. The country group contributed “I Did With You” to the film’s soundtrack, which is out today.

“Now I’m just pissed, because he’s better than me,” Lady A’s Charles Kelley said.

In a couple of degrees of separation from the superstar trio, Marsden starred in the romantic comedy, 27 Dresses, with Katherine Heigl. Her husband, singer Josh Kelley, is Charles’ brother.

The Best of Me soundtrack also features Hunter Hayes, Kacey Musgraves, Kip Moore, Thomas Rhett, Eli Young Band and more. The film hits theaters Friday.
