Watch Hunter Hayes Cover Sam Smith’s ‘I’m Not the Only One’
Sam Smith had a Top Five hit in 2014 with “I’m Not the Only One,” from his multiple-Grammy-winning In the Lonely Hour album, and the Englishman’s fans are not the only ones benefiting from his soulful performance of the song. Young country superstar Hunter Hayes, who at 23 is a whole eight months older than Smith, manages to wring an equally emotional performance out of the heartbreak tune in this acoustically performed clip for PopShackTV.
Hayes is just back from Australia, where he released I Want Crazy, an album comprised of tracks from his first two albums, including the current single, “Light Me Up.” The Grammy-nominated artist’s 2011 self-titled debut LP and its follow-up, 2014’s Storyline, both topped the country charts, and Hayes has been certified platinum for sales in excess of one million.
On May 1st, the multi-instrumentalist Stevie Wonder called “a blessing to music” will join Sam Hunt on Lady Antebellum’s Wheels Up Tour, which kicks off in Lubbock, Texas. For his part, the decidedly hands-on performer wants to be sure fans get their money’s worth.
“I want to be shaking hands, running up and down, doing the whole thing,” Hayes told Rolling Stone Country at rehearsals for his Tattoo Your Name Tour last fall. “Not only do I get to do that but now we have something that reacts to that and spreads the energy across the room. So you’re not just creating something that’s like this four-walled box on a stage. You take something that happens and then spread it out over the entire audience. Then everybody’s immediately closer and part of the show. The show changes shape, it changes dimensions immediately.”
Hayes will be in Dallas this weekend for the 50th annual ACM Awards, where he’ll take part in the ACM Lifting Lives charity concert event.
