In December 2013, vocal group Home Free made it into the fourth season finals of NBC’s competitive show The Sing Off following their a capella performance of Zac Brown Band’s Number One hit “Colder Weather.” Nearly three years after taking home the grand prize, the group has released a studio recording and video for their rendition of the song that’s as chilly as its subject matter.
Filmed in Minnesota by directors Reilly Zamber, McKenzie Zamber and Jimmy Bates, the clip features the group in a handful of austere settings befitting its lyrics. Group members Austin Brown, Rob Lundquist, Adam Rupp, Tim Foust and Adam Chance huddle around a fireplace, visit a coffee shop and suit up for the cold outside at different points. The song appears on their Christmas album Full of (Even More) Cheer, alongside holiday standards such as “O Holy Night,” “White Christmas” and “Away in a Manger.” Home Free has also made inroads in mainstream country with covers of Maren Morris’ “My Church” and the Oak Ridge Boys’ “Elvira,” among others.
Home Free’s A Country Christmas tour has dates scheduled through the holidays, including one this evening at Strand Capital Performing Arts Center in York, Pennsylvania, followed by another November 17th at Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Pennsylvania.
