Watch High Valley’s Turbocharged, Unplugged ‘Roads We’ve Never Taken’
It says a lot about High Valley that on the day they release their major-label debut Dear Life, the duo – Canadian brothers Brad and Curtis Rempel – celebrate with a stripped-down session on the family farm. Premiering exclusively on Rolling Stone Country, the polished-picking duo (and a handful of other acoustic comrades) take to Brad’s front porch to perform “Roads We’ve Never Taken,” a full-throttle, pop-bluegrass diary of their journey from small-town Alberta to the next generation of Nashville’s Music Row, where young artists hold banjo picks in one hand and an iPhone in the other.
“This is probably the most ‘rockabilly’ track on the new record. It was written to be a song that felt as ‘front porch-ish’ as possible,” Brad tells Rolling Stone Country about the video, part of their Farm House Sessions series. “Recording the acoustic version on the front porch for the farm house made perfect sense.”
One of Rolling Stone Country‘s Artists You Need to Know, High Valley has already made an impression on the charts with their debut single “Make You Mine,” an upbeat anthem that sounds like Mumford & Sons inhabited by the Brothers Osborne. The Rempels grew up listening to gospel before discovering the wider world of pop and country radio, which accounts for the positive, motivational undertones on Dear Life.
High Valley will kick off their first European tour in February, and Dear Life is out today on Atlantic Records/Warner Music Nashville.
