Watch Granger Smith’s Poignant ‘5 More Minutes’ Video

“If the Boot Fits” singer repurposes older song for new album ‘Remington’

Though it’s not immediately obvious from carefree singles like “If the Boot Fits” and the Number One “Backroad Song,” there is an undercurrent of loss that runs through Granger Smith’s new album Remington. The song “Tractor” memorializes Smith’s father, who died before his son inked a record deal with Broken Bow imprint Wheelhouse.

Additionally, Remington includes the older Smith song “5 More Minutes” that was written following his grandfather’s death and originally recorded for the 2009 album Don’t Listen to the Radio. While his radio promotion strategy is focused on the rowdy single “If the Boot Fits,” the video for “5 More Minutes” has been re-released to complement the buzz around Remington. Though feelings of loss and grief are experienced differently from person to person, “5 More Minutes” finds a unifying idea: everyone who knows loss craves more time with the departed. As Smith strolls a city sidewalk, people of different backgrounds hold whiteboards with touching statements of how they would make use of that time.

Released on March 4th, Remington reached Number Three on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in its first week. The collection also includes “City Boy Stuck” and “‘Merica” from Smith’s comic alter ego Earl Dibbles Jr.
