If Eric Paslay’s “Friday Night” focused on the thrill of a new relationship, then “She Don’t Love You” shines a light on the heartbreak that waits just around the bend.
“You can hold her in the moonlight, you can give her all the stars. . . but you’ll never have her heart,” the Texas native sings, while acoustic guitars and strings swell in the background. Co-written with Jennifer Wayne — a member of the short-lived country trio Stealing Angels, as well as John Wayne’s granddaughter — it’s a classic country power ballad, stripped free of the “Bacardi, Broncos and babes” motif that seems to rear its head on many Top 20 hits these days.
Director Wes Edwards keeps things classy in the song’s newly-released music video, too. Shot inside the Staar Theater, a 150-year old opera house located on the town square of Pulaski, Tennessee, the clip switches between performance shots of Paslay and footage of his onscreen girlfriend, who twirls beneath the theater’s dismantled ceilings and peeling plaster walls in a lonely, slow-motion dance.
Fresh off a stint opening for Dierks Bentley on the Riser Tour, Paslay is now headlining his own Make Every Night Friday Night trek. He’s also newly engaged, and set to tie the knot (one Friday?) this spring.
