Keith Whitley’s testament to battling tough times, “I’m No Stranger To The Rain,” has be-come a modern day classic that country artists including Randy Travis and Garth Brooks have performed.
Now add Chris Janson to that list. The “Buy Me a Boat” singer recently covered the ballad – Whitley’s last single released before his death in 1989 – for the Bobby Bones Show’s St. Jude Radiothon. Accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, Janson delivered a faithful rendition of Whitley’s rich baritone on the emotional chart topper.
Among the other artists participating in the Radiothon included Lauren Alaina, who covered Brooks & Dunn’s “Believe”; Kelsea Ballerini and Dave Barnes, who reinvented Blake Shelton’s “God Gave Me You” as a duet; and Locash, who sang their Keith Urban hit “You Gonna Fly.” Dustin Lynch totally switched gears to perform a falsetto-filled take on James Brown’s “I Feel Good,” complete with horns.
“Holdin’ Her,” the latest hit from Janson, who opened for Luke Bryan on the superstar’s Farm Tour this fall, climbed to Number 27 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart this week. Janson has several shows between now and year’s end, including supporting Tim McGraw in Las Vegas December 10th.
