Watch Cam Make Peace With ‘Diane’ in Emotional New Video

Singer comes clean with cheated-on title character in powerhouse clip for her latest single

Cam has released the music video for her current single, “Diane,” which was shot in Los Angeles and directed by Daniel Carberry. The tune, in which she reveals to an unsuspecting wife that she has been having an affair with her husband because she didn’t know he was married, is the first release from the Grammy-nominated artist’s sophomore LP, due later this year.

While “Diane” musically embraces the sunny, pop Seventies influences of ABBA and Fleetwood Mac, the video for the hard-charging tune adds visual details – including the man coloring pictures with the couple’s young daughter and the two women tearfully meeting face-to-face – that accentuate the heartbreaking situation in which the women find themselves and how they ultimately come to terms with it all. And although the clip benefits from a retro-inspired aesthetic, the storyline remains a powerful and timely reminder that solidarity and forgiveness never go out of style.

“This song came from me thinking about one of my good friends whose parents went through a rough divorce,” the California-born performer told Rolling Stone Country late last year. “One of my other good friends right now is going through a rough divorce. Infidelity is obviously, if it’s not happening to you, it’s happening to your best friend. It’s something that happens all the time and people just don’t want to talk about. So, this is kind of taking the lid off and letting people talk about it.”

Cam penned “Diane” with songwriters-producers Jeff Bhasker and Tyler Johnson, her collaborators on the 2015 breakout smash, “Burning House.”
