Some go to South by Southwest to catch the next big thing, but when Jimmy Kimmel moved his show to Austin this week he decided to go a little more native, with a performance from one of country’s biggest stars: Brad Paisley. The singer played renditions of “Crushin’ It” (watch below) and “Perfect Storm” Monday night, and also had Kimmel’s trusty sidekick, Guillermo, model clothes from his new line of western wear (watch above).
“I thought since you’re coming down here, you gotta dress like the locals,” Paisley told the late-night host as Guillermo showed off duds from his Moonshine Spirit collection, which includes hats, button-up shirts and boots so one can dress like, well, Brad Paisley. Setting up shop at Austin’s Long Center for the Performing Arts, Kimmel quizzed Paisley on his recent trip to Afghanistan, where he hitched a ride on Air Force One with President Obama and embellished a little about stealing a few beer glasses.
“At least I’m not saying we were shot at,” he quipped with a sly jab at NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams.
Jimmy Kimmel Live will be broadcasting from Austin for the rest of the week during the music festival and conference, hosting the likes of Kanye West and Julia Louis Dreyfus. Paisley, however, will hit the road, continuing to a tour stop in Houston before traveling back to Tennessee to perform at the Grand Ole Opry’s 90th anniversary celebration with Old Crow Medicine Show and Asleep at the Wheel on March 24th.
