When it came time to film a music video for his newest single, “Perfect Storm,” Brad Paisley revisited his old stomping grounds — Twitter — to ask fans for help. He was looking for pictures of women wearing t-shirts, to help drive home the first line from the song’s chorus: “She destroys me in that t-shirt/And I love her so much it hurts.” His fans obliged, sending in pictures of themselves (or loved ones) by the hundreds. Dozens of those photos wound up in the finished clip, which shows Paisley and his bandmates playing “Perfect Storm” in the middle of a rain shower, while hurricane winds blow an endless stream of 8×10 pictures past the camera. It’s an epic video, filled with slow-motion drum fills, rolling clouds and guitar poses worthy of a hair-metal band… which makes it the perfect accompaniment to a power ballad.
Co-written and co-produced by Paisley himself, “Perfect Storm” is the second single from Moonshine in the Trunk, which peaked at Number Two on the Billboard 200 in August. Pitched by the frontman himself as “a modern honky-tonk record, but not one that’s a ‘cry in your beer’ honky-tonk record,” Moonshine in the Trunk finds Paisley wearing his heart on his sleeve and planting his tongue firmly in cheek, jumping between tributes to his wife and lighthearted odes to, say, Chick-fil-A. His wife, actress Kimberly Williams, even gets a quick tip-of-the-cowboy-hat during the “Perfect Storm” video, when her picture flies past Paisley during the final minute.
Paisley is currently wrapping up a string of shows in Canada. He’ll return to Nashville on November 5th to co-host the 48th Annual CMA Awards with Carrie Underwood, marking the seventh time the two have shared hosting duties.
