Watch Blake Shelton’s Stark ‘Savior’s Shadow’ Video

Contemplative song grew out of the difficult days surrounding the singer’s divorce

Compared to many of his recent radio hits, Blake Shelton’s “Savior’s Shadow” is simple and stark. With some elegant acoustic guitar work, plaintive strings and impassioned harmonies, Shelton’s hymn of turmoil and salvation hits as hard as anything with amplifiers cranked way up.

The video for “Savior’s Shadow” is similarly stark, shot in black and white and featuring close-ups of Shelton strumming his guitar as he sings the song. Shelton originally conceived of the song in a dream he had during the trying days around his divorce with Miranda Lambert.

“That’s when it became apparent that, you know, things weren’t going to work out with my marriage,” the singer told Billboard. “We both knew that it wasn’t going to work out, and I was walking around, randomly singing that song to myself, and somehow it would make me feel better.”

He enlisted Jon Randall and Jessi Alexander to help him finish the process. The tune closes his forthcoming album If I’m Honest, which will be available May 20th.
