Trisha Yearwood Announces Greatest Hits Album for November

Last month, longtime country superstar turned über-foodie Trisha Yearwood announced PrizeFighter: Hit After Hit, her first album in seven years, at a private press event and performance in Nashville. Now the singer reveals the album is set for release November 17th, a mere six days after the November 11th release of husband Garth Brooks’ unprecedentedly anticipated, still-as-yet-untitled comeback album. In addition to physical format, both albums will be released digitally on Brooks’ new GhostTunes music service.
“It’s been 23 years since [my] first single and I’m just not ready to stop swinging the bat,” Yearwood told the crowd at the Nashville event with folksy sincerity, comparing her early career mentality to that of a rookie baseball player who only hoped to have a decent run.
The 16-track album is a mix of greatest hits and six new songs. And if the brief, stripped-down, pitch-perfect performance that followed the singer’s comments is any indication, fans can expect a return to the evocative, sky-reaching melodies and emotionally honest pop of the singer’s Clinton-era classics like “She’s in Love With the Boy” and “Perfect Love.” Both songs are included in the hits portion of PrizeFighter.
Among the new songs are the reflective “I Remember You” — a tribute to Yearwood’s mother and cookbook co-author, Gwen Yearwood, who succumbed to cancer in 2011 — and “Your Husband Is Cheating on Us” — quite possibly the most fun murder anti-ballad since the Dixie Chicks’ “Goodbye Earl.” “I loved it, and it’s so wrong,” Yearwood said of “Your Husband Is Cheating on Us,” which was penned by Matraca Berg and Marshall Chapman.
Currently, Yearwood — who also has an array of food-related endeavors on deck — is supporting Brooks on his already-blockbuster comeback tour, which, on the heels of a successful 11-show opening run in Chicago, has made its way to Atlanta. Brooks and Yearwood hit Jacksonville, Florida, and Lexington, Kentucky, next.
Check out a clip of Yearwood dueting with Kelly Clarkson on PrizeFighter‘s lead-off single and title track, a tune Yearwood described as a song about, “beating the odds, and winning and fighting no matter what.” The song doesn’t mark the first time the duo have harmonized together — who could ever forget the rollicking version of Brooks’ proto-bro party anthem par excellence “Ain’t Going Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up)” the pair pulled off at 2013’s CMA Music Fest?
