Toby Keith Plots New Album ‘The Bus Songs’

Toby Keith has been around long enough that he has some hard-earned freedom when it comes to releasing music, and he’s taking full advantage on his forthcoming album, The Bus Songs.
The new collection, out September 8th, features 12 of Keith’s more unorthodox songs, all of which were written – as the title suggests – with that special mentality that only the back of a tour bus (and, let’s be real, the mind-altering substance often found there) can bring out in an artist. Seven of the album’s songs are new, while the other five (“Runnin’ Block,” “Hell No,” “The Critic,” “Ballad of Balad” and “Weed With Willie”) are fresh takes on old favorites.
Keith gave fans a taste of what to expect from The Bus Songs last month when he shared album track “Wacky Tobaccy,” a lowbrow ode to high times with a video that features none other than Willie Nelson. Appropriately, The Bus Songs also features a previously unreleased live version of Keith’s 2003 tune “Weed With Willie.”
Keith recently landed at number 96 on Rolling Stone Country‘s list of the 100 Greatest Country Artists of All Time, heralded for his humor, sincerity, and rich baritone voice. He’ll receive the Poet’s Award from the Academy of Country Music in August.
