Members of the band and crew for country music duo Thompson Square (married couple Keifer and Shawna Thompson), escaped injury in a horrific bus crash on April 17th just east of Denver, in Aurora, Colorado.

According to reports from KUSA-TV, the chain-reaction mishap began when another tour bus, carrying members of pop performer Twin Shadow’s (real name: George Lewis) band and crew, slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70. Eleven of the passengers on that bus, as well as the bus driver, 41-year-old John Crawford, were injured. In the ensuing wreck, the Twin Shadow bus struck a semi as well as the Thompson Square bus, but according to a brief statement on the award-winning duo’s website, Thompson Square’s bus sustained minimal damage. Neither Keifer nor Shawna Thompson was on board at the time. The couple was in Dallas ahead of Sunday night’s ACM Awards.

Initial news reports erroneously stated that the Thompson Square bus was the one most heavily damaged in the collision. According to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis, dense fog played a factor in the accident. It was also raining and snowing in the area at the time of the crash.

Both acts were scheduled to play shows in Denver Friday night and both shows were ultimately called off. As of Monday morning, Twin Shadow’s bus driver, Crawford, and drummer Andy Bauer remained hospitalized. Lewis will undergo reconstructive hand surgery this week.

Coincidentally, one day earlier, Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott, her husband Chris Tyrell, their tour manager and driver were about 45 minutes from AT&T Stadium, where the ACMs took place, when their tour bus caught fire Thursday morning on Interstate 30 northeast of Dallas. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported in that incident.

“Trans Am,” the first single from Thompson Square’s upcoming new album, premiered exclusively at Rolling Stone Country last month.
