Steven Tyler Announces Intimate Solo Tour

Out on a Limb Tour will find the Aerosmith frontman playing theaters

Befitting of the Aerosmith singer’s unexpected foray into country music, Steven Tyler has announced a string of summer shows he’s calling the Out on a Limb Tour. A series of theater dates visiting 19 cities in total, the trek kicks off July 2nd in Las Vegas.

The 68-year-old rock icon gave a preview of what’s to come at a benefit concert in New York City last night, reworking his Aerosmith classics with his new band, Loving Mary, and sharing the stories behind the Boston group’s unforgettable hard-rock hits.

“What would I not pay to go see [Paul] McCartney, but instead of playing with whoever he’s with now, actually do [a show] where he tells you what he was thinking when he wrote ‘Yesterday’?” Tyler told USA Today. “That’s what I’m doing. I figured I’d talk about ‘Sweet Emotion’ and ‘Dream On’ and where I was when I wrote it, and ‘Seasons of Wither’ and how I played it.”

The concept reportedly stems from Tyler’s recent TV performance for PBS’s Front and Center, and is sure to also include his new country-format song output. Two singles have been released so far — “Love Is Your Name” and the summer anthem “Red, White and You” — and while they have performed modestly on country radio, Tyler plans to finish and release a complete album produced by roots-recording wizard T Bone Burnett with “a full-on country feel.”
