With songs like “Christmas in Washington,” “The Devil’s Right Hand,” “Copperhead Road” and numerous others, Steve Earle is revered as one of country and Americana’s sharpest songwriters. Rather than being foisted upon him by luck or fate, Earle’s skill has been sharpened by years of input and hard work — lessons he’s willing to impart at his third annual Camp Copperhead this summer.

Scheduled for June 27th to July 1st among the Catskills Mountains at Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, New York, Camp Copperhead is an opportunity for writers of all stripes, ages and abilities to learn how Earle put together his best-loved songs. Campgoers will also have the chance to learn from guest instructors like hit songwriter Shawn Colvin on a variety of topics. Each night features an open mic performance option and Earle will conclude the camp with a concert.

“There’s a community that’s been formed amongst previous attendees,” notes Earle on the camp website. “Everybody keeps in touch online and says hello at the shows. Most importantly though, I want you to learn more about my songs and maybe even your own in the process.”

Earle’s most recent album Terraplane was released in February 2015. In an October 2015 interview with Rolling Stone Country, Colvin revealed that she and Earle had been collaborating on an album that would be recorded in December.
