Keith Urban, Little Big Town and Celine Dion are the three acts tapped to perform on the annual Stand Up to Cancer telecast, which airs on more than 40 television networks and a handful of online outlets on September 9th.
Broadcasting live from the Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the one-hour show is executive produced by actor Bradley Cooper (American Sniper, The Hangover), who lost his father to cancer in 2011. Fellow actors appearing include Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Emma Stone, Anna Kendrick, Josh Gad, Niecy Nash, Eric Stonestreet, Alison Sweeney, Ken Jeong, Marcia Cross, Greg Grunberg, Danielle Campbell and Brittany Daniel. R&B phenom Charlie Wilson will also present on the show, as will Stand Up to Cancer co-founder Katie Couric.
“We all have a reason to stand up,” says Cooper. “Stand Up to Cancer is a sustained movement that impacts millions of lives. We honor the personal stories that motivate individuals to fight, and that highlight the urgent need to get new methods of treatment to the patients who so desperately need them.”
Since its 2008 inception, the Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) movement has raised more than $370 million dollars for cancer research and treatment. SU2C-funded research has led to the FDA approval of two new cancer treatments. The initiative has also funded more than 160 clinical trials involving thousands of patients. Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for more than 8 million lives lost each year. One out of every two men and one of every three women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetimes.
